On June 22nd, the ceremony to offer prayers over the second phase construction of “Fukushima floating offshore wind farm demonstration project (Fukushima FORWARD)” and the reception to announce the project were held in Iwaki City, Fukushima prefecture. In the speech at the reception after the safety prayer ceremony, Vice Chairman Ota of Marubeni said “we would like to advance the research steadily and develop it into business to be a symbol of Fukushima Recovery.” Senior Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Takagi said, “Japanese government aims at industry accumulation and job creation by making Fukushima a leading base of renewable energy in the world. We will deepen cooperation with the local government and advance the project carefully. “
After those words of welcome, Deputy-Governor of Fukushima Hatake, Councilor Iwaki, Councilor Mori, Councilor Wakamatsu, Representative Mayama, Iwaki mayor Shimizu, Hirono Mayor Endo and Chairman Nozaki of Fukushima fishermen’s cooperative association expressed words of congratulation successively.
The ceremony and the reception were attended by about 230 people from Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, relevant ministries and agencies, Fukushima prefecture and relevant local governments, local business community, fishermen's cooperative association and news companies to offer prayers over one of the world's largest 7MW wind turbine deployment in the floating offshore wind farm. After the reception, a briefing was held and attended by about 60 people from the academic world and the mass media.
In the second phase construction, 7MW wind turbine facilities were completed at Onahama port in early June. After trials and adjustment, they are planned to be towed to the testing area and connected to the chains, anchors and marine cables which were already installed.
